Namaste,

The Namatribe has left the north west… Went to the dirty south and moved minds, rumbled with

non-profit orgs and yoga studios……. We rocked an art show and manifested some meditation silks

before returning to the west coast. Before returning though, we stopped through the midwest, where

we identified problem areas which are the heart of apathy. Ohio has issues….. No breakbeats played

on the radio statewide? NO radio station on the largest university campus in the state? Wasn’t ohio

the “freestate” where the underground railrode ended in the fight the south for black freedom days?

No radio but the king of porn Larry Flint can run things from a huge mansion across from a private all

girls school (back when he started out)? Wild that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama won in that state…. Maybe all the harshed and silenced energies built up and made a power move! Power to the people!

Now that we are back on the west coast…. We are happening fully and truly, restoring our health and

reorganizing our studio.

We still have the spinning wheel with us and are starting the next round of threads for our new Anti-

war weaving called “Moments of Nanak”……

Will be back on the blog soon, to add more.

Until then, keep that mind upside down!

Here is a flyer we have been spreading around in support of the NamaCommentary. The commentary is played at our art shows, and helps to promote the artists on our label as well as our Fiber Activism.

Can we recognize the root causes of our behaviors, the dangerous ones, the ones that threaten our survival as being unconsciously driven? Can we see how such behavior of JEFF who cannot perform cognitively when trying to support what he thinks is a credible explanation for 2 of the worlds strongest towers going to the ground almost identically at a rate near free fall?

Do we recognize that our memory is basically an attribute of the unconscious mind? And that each day our unconscious reprograms our puny conscious mind with what the conscious thinks life is about? Including what it has available to it for memory held in the unconscious.

If we can recognize these things can we accept that the reason we do not use our recognition of them in a way consistent with the meaning of them to take meaningful action, is, in itself, the acting out of an unconscious mandate? If we can accept that can we work against that unconscious mandate to engage actions that are logical with respect to the comprehensiveness of this message and do so immediately without evasion and cooperate with others who also observe and respect the comprehensive aspects of this message? Can we logically discern what the appropriate action is?

It seems that a student can, but take a look at what happens when such action is done…..
We posted his video over at the tribe blog, toward the bottom of the entry.

MOVING MOUNTAINS CD RESPONDS TO AN APPALACHIAN ENVIRONMENTAL NIGHTMARE

The March 2006 issue of National Geographic added to the growing chorus of national publicity about “The High Cost of Cheap Coal”. One of the two articles was “Where Mountains Move” about the people and places of rural southern Appalachia being devastated by mountaintop removal (MTR) coal mining. The first picture in the article showed Larry Gibson of Kayford Mountain in southern WV, standing on his family’s 50-acre homestead surrounded by a barren moonscape where mountains used to stand – dense, wrinkled and tree covered.

Larry’s own voice is one of 6 interviews with coalfields residents included on the Moving Mountains: Voices of Appalachia Rise Up Against Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining compilation CD, produced by coalfield activist and musician Jen Osha. The CD includes one of her songs and 12 others from artists deeply moved by the complete and unprecedented reshaping of Appalachia’s contours and forests, including the late legendary fiddler Vasser Clements, songwriter and occasional West Virginia Public Radio host Kate Long, and guitarist and songwriter Mike Morningstar, as well as Falling Mountain’s own Andrew McKnight and Keith & Joan Pitzer.

What is Mountain Top Removal Mining?

Mountaintop removal / valley fill coal mining (MTR) has been called strip mining on steroids. One author says the process should be more accurately named: mountain range removal. Mountaintop removal /valley fill mining annihilates ecosystems, transforming some of the most biologically diverse temperate forests in the world into biologically barren moonscapes.

Many thanks to OHVEC for the use of their photographs and assistance in this page.

Steps and Effects

1. Forests are clear-cut; often scaping away topsoil, lumber, understory herbs such as ginseng and goldenseal, and all other forms of life that do not move out of the way quickly enough. Wildlife habitat is destroyed and vegetation loss often leads to floods and landslides. Next, explosives up to 100 times as strong as ones that tore open the Oklahoma City Federal building blast up to 800 feet off mountaintops. Explosions can cause damage to home foundations and wells. “Fly rock,” more aptly named fly boulder, can rain off mountains, endangering resident’s lives and homes.

2. Huge Shovels dig into the soil and trucks haul it away or push it into adjacent valleys.

3. A dragline digs into the rock to expose the coal. These machines can weigh up to 8 million pounds with a base as big as a gymnasium and as tall as a 20-story building. These machines allow coal companies to hire fewer workers. A small crew can tear apart a mountain in less than a year, working night and day. Coal companies make big profits at the expense of us all.

4. Giant machines then scoop out the layers of coal, dumping millions of tons of “overburden” – the former mountaintops – into the narrow adjacent valleys, thereby creating valley fills. Coal companies have forever buried over 1,200 miles of biologically crucial Appalachian headwaters streams

5. Coal companies are supposed to reclaim land, but all too often mine sites are left stripped and bare. Even where attempts to replant vegetation have been made, the mountain is never again returned to its healty state. Reclamation Problems

Community Impacts

Coal washing often results in thousands of gallons of contaminated water that looks like black sludge and contains toxic chemicals and heavy metals. The sludge, or slurry, is often contained behind earthen dams in huge sludge ponds. One of these ponds broke on February 26th, 1972 above the community of Buffalo Creek in southern West Virginia. Pittston Coal Company had been warned that the dam was dangerous, but they did nothing. Heavy rain caused the pond to fill up and it breached the dam, sending a wall of black water into the valley below. Over 132 million gallons of black wastewater raged through the valley. 125 people were killed, 1100 injured and 4000 were left homeless. Over 1000 cars and trucks were destroyed and the disaster did 50 million dollars in damage. The coal company called it an “act of God”.

The school is in lower left of photo. The clear green patch in the lower left is the football field. The tall cylindrical white object is the coal silo, less than 200 feet from the school. The zigzag is the earthen dam holding the sludge lake (2.8 billion gallons), directly above the school.

Traditional mining communities dissappear as jobs diminish and residents are driven away by dust, blasting and increased flooding and dangers from overloaded coal trucks careening down small, windy mountain roads. Mining companies buy many of the homes and tear them down.Dynamite is cheaper than people, so mountaintop removal mining does not create many new jobs.

Mingo County flood in West Virginia

Mountaintop removal generates huge amounts of waste. While the solid waste becomes valley fills, liquid waste is stored in massive, dangerous coal slurry impoundments, often built in the headwaters of a watershed. The slurry is a witch’s brew of water used to wash the coal for market, carcinogenic chemicals used in the washing process and coal fines (small particles) laden with all the compounds found in coal, including toxic heavy metals such as arsenic and mercury. Frequent blackwater spills from these impoundments choke the life out of streams. One “spill” of 306 million gallons that sentsludge up to fifteen feet thick into resident’s yards and fouled 75 miles of waterways, has been called the southeast’s worst environmental disaster.

Of course, it’s not only the people who suffer. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has written that mountaintop removal’s destruction of WV’s vast contiguous forests destroys key nesting habitat for neo-tropical migrant bird populations, and thereby decreases the migratory bird populations throughout the northeast U.S.

How could this happen?

A federal judge has twice ruled that most valley fills are illegal under the Clean Water Act (CWA). His first ruling was overturned on a jurisdictional issue, and his second ruling is now under appeal by the Bush administration. In case the appeal doesn’t go the way he wants, Bush has rewritten a 25-year-old rule of the CWA, thus legalizing illegal valley fills. The federal judge reminded Bush that only Congress can rewrite the laws of the land. The whole issue is up in the air. Other aspects of MTR are also illegal, but the outlaw coal industry has many politicians, from the local to the national level, in its pocket. Coal companies continue to buy politicians’ support, so they can do whatever they want, choking out the democratic political process just as their frequent spills choke the life out of streams.

Bush received millions of dollars from the coal industry during his 2000 election campaign One of Bush’s big supporters in West Virginia, James “Buck” Harless (a Bush “Pioneer”), who raised $250,000 for Bush, had a private audience with the President at Bush’s ranch. What’s more, his grandson, James H. Harless II, was chosen as an energy policy adviser during the White House transition.

Having a moment of HAFIZ is when you know that the Hafiz has happened through you and the poetry or art you did leaves you saying, “it was not I”…. Those of us who share the truth about how life lives us enjoy seeing when the great work happens through “so called others”… So we enjoy sharing missing knowledge and have started working on creating more communication between people by sharing books. What ever you do or say in this world an attraction and aversion sets in among the people aorund us, so we have decided that our way of sharing unity and poetry needs to have two styles at once! Something for everyone who is here to create change in the right direction.

We can dance both ways, in a formal conventional way and in a loose beatnik or beatnut way. We share missing knowledge with many types of people and sources of wisdom…..

We have been bridging and sharing with a book group out of PDX, Oregan and also with the “Voice Yourself” team- the woody action mob. The PDX team has a book tracking system so we can follow books as they are passed from person to person. And if that isn’t for you we even have more sharing happening with underground poets on the go, in the most intuitive ways – those according to subculture methods and music.

We asked each other, “if you were stranded on a desert island, what are the top 5 books or publications you would want to have with you? Get to know what Namasteezy and friends have collected so far….

Please send us your recommendations so we can stock our library with your favorites too… They can be environmental, political, or spiritual works or just what you think is fun:

It was going on before the events of 911 when the towers fell. KMD and Brand Nubian Friends

reminded us of that long ago. Although many listened, since then, Hip Hop has slowly been

getting manipulated by corporate power. So more recently, by Blitz, we are pointed toward

the story of  modern America and how it ends with the re-discovery of the white man

by the arabs, who by the way, “They are trying to make the new nigga.”

With telephone and TV it is not so much the message as the sender that is sent.

Thats right! Dark forces that control media are hard at work for the control of our

mind, and they have been attempting to destroy true hip hop and our ability to

maintain a relationship with truth, truth process and as community.

These forces deal in manipulations of life and meanings, and

value hiding behind a “highly liquid work credit” method which many call “yuppy food

coupons”. America is seven generations deep into debt and it is time we remember that money

is just a symbol for energy.

By bridging the YOGA and MUSIC, Namasteezy  moves independent music forward

INTERDEPENDENTLY, with an understanding of the human mind. We are doing what is needed

and create opportunities to share in coherent exchange that actually leads to results. It makes

sense to explain the secret control, and so we had to honor Grand Puba – he was one of the

first to do so. We revive the activism in hip hop and clarify BLACK MAN as including all the

marginalized people, and we emphasize the subtle and mental spiritual over skin color to

include relevancy of reincarnation, missing knowledge about the unconscious aspects of mind,

and those who are abused for being in their heart. Namasteezy is always for the underdog, and

we see that all beings were our mother during some previous lifetime.  Bill Cosby is often right

and most recently he said, “We can no longer blame the white man”. What this means is once

it was Africa, then Native Americans, Tibetans, and now people of the Middle East. BLACK is

who ever happens to be under attack , its whoever is being hypnotized into a fear based

reptilian instinct dominated mind state. Everything is interdependently originating and every

action is connected to a previous action, there for the abuse of a black man in in tibet is also

connected to the abuse of humans in America. So what is better than secret? Unconscious. The

agenda that has the man detaining artists and profiled people who fit stereo types according to

their appearance chasing tactics – unconscious. That agenda implemented by corporations that

has corrupted our families and diluted what culture we had, is unconscious. Whoever was doing

it forgot  whatever they were doing, so it looks like there doing something else. They could

have even said so, and most would believe them. Good cover huh?

If they forgot on purpose does that make them innocent? If we know nothing about how they

do it, do they deserve to be innocent? It just keeps happening, Life time after life time, year

after year after year. Getting more and more oppressive.

Women should be pissed. They don’t bring their children into the world to be slaves.

So it is time for a message board which deals in these difficult truths. many of those which you

find on the internet only harsh and disrupt efforts of the people to unify. Many are clearly

hosted by disinfos or people with alternative motives.

So here is one which bridges subculture, Spiritual community and Activism for the

empowerment of independent artists and every day people seeking solutions via

INTERDEPENDENT METHODS.

Walking Meditations

Walking around town with a “ghetto blaster” AND enjoying part of teh walk in silence…

A gathering for conversation and reflection on meanings of songs and interaction with those the group meets along the way….

Purpose:
Community interaction, alliance making, Dharma, Artist Empowerment and friendship making…

Great for those who would like to express higher capacities of kindness and activism.

Come bridge the ancient walking meditation practice with the hip hop music tradition of listening to a ghetto blaster, awakening people with the blended experience of both, as activism, Spirituality in action and community building…

We will be taking this innercity learning/growing opportunity, and friend making International…
We will be hosting and doing the walking meditaions in major and small cities worldwide! We consider the event a great way to promote underground music projects, artists and culture as well as a way to bring people together to focus on real issues like the 911 lie.

Introducing people to purposes of both walking meditation as Dharma and experimenting with the growth that comes from sharing Hip Hop Culture, Namasteezy walks with radios weekly.

Honoring artists and projects and all movements and subcultures that long for the expression of unity and awareness, we work alone and together, to gather!

Please visit our myspace for some music samples and let us know if you would like to host or join a walk!

Chiton potato bug of the sea

Seattle Intercity hiking team member Richie takes us on a journey to Sachelhead Beach.

It is a private beach, you will need a day pass. Richie says if not, you will get towed – be careful !!!

Telly Tell, “How many times have you gone sea shell hunting”?

Richie, ” Hundreds of times. In the process of shamonism, Carlos Castanada wrote in the teachings of Don Juan, you collect special objects or “alliesn I like to do this as often as I can.”

According to him, Juan said, if interested in shamonsim, “You collect what he called “allies”…

Richie goes on to say, “you have to be playful with the meanings, his wife said he made it all up.

But ever since I was a child, I have always picked up trinkets and rocks and shells.

I didn’t go out to find that mamoth bone, I went out to really talk to God.

So a few weeks ago, I went to the beach with a friend.

On this trip, it was my 1st experience I had on an archilogical dig, we went out as a team.

We figured out when low tied was.

Upon getting out of the car, a beautiful hawk greeted me. Upon getting to where I thought the hawk wanted me, near there was a sand dollar.

My buddy Ferg was blown away.

I want to go out there again, soon.”

Telly Tell, “So, you kinds have been finding ancient bones! Wow, amazing, who would have thought that is possible? I am so inspired by you, and this story! I have never collected too many allies, but I do keep a picture of Meher Baba with me. Maybe I should look for his image in more shells and rocks. I am super stoked you can see love and find love in the pieces of nature that you gather Richie, its really smart, really spiritual. Thank you for sharing your story with us, we look forward to hiking with you!”

LATER ON, ABOUT A WEEK AFTER THE RICHIE INTERVIEW, AN ART SHOW FEATURED HIS TEAMMATE “FERG”!

FERG MAKES MINI-MUSEUMS OUT OF ALLIES, WHICH GO INTO GREAT DETAIL. HE MAKES LITTLE SIGNS WHICH IDENTIFY WHICH HIKES AND LOCATIONS HE FOUND THEM ON.

FERG ALSO WORKS WITH LIVING BUGS THAT HE COLLECTS, WHICH MAKE SHELLS THAT THEY LEAVE BEHIND AFTER THEY GET WINGS TO FLY AWAY. HE LEAVES JEWELS AND ALLIES IN THEIR WATER, DECIDED FOR THEM WHICH AND WHAT THINGS THEY HAVE TO USE FOR THEIR SHELLS….

HE THEN MAKES NECKLACES WITH THE LEFT BEHIND JEWELS!
